The Time of Our Life

For family and friends who have dogs

With age comes wisdom.
We learn from the past
to prepare for tomorrow,
living each day in the future.

But a dog cares far more about now.

With wisdom comes age,
but memory fails,
so some of us cling to it,
living each day in the past.

Yet a dog draws us back to the now.

So, perhaps the alliance
twixt humans and dogs
is a gift from our Maker,
gluing us fast to today.

For a dog’s special skill is the now.
