Yes and no. The general topic is not one I commonly read. My favorite genres have been SF, historical fiction, and detective fiction. So you are automatically at a disadvantage. As I recall, general fiction of the 80s that came out as movies tended not to have happy endings — and I much prefer a happy ending. So another disadvantage, because reading that it is set in that decade reminds me of that decade’s movies. Unfair, of course. What might help would be a tweak to the last sentence, to hint that the coping might be successful — without explicitly saying so, of course.
